God Bless Our Troops

Lt. Col. Gregory Gadson, former Army football player

While we all may differ on politics, religion, ethics, business, education…whatever, there is no denying that we need to honor the men and women who proudly serve our country and protect our freedom.

Visit www.missionserve.org to find a Veterans Day event in your neighborhood, and keep visiting the site after today to do your part in supporting our troops.

“It is the soldier, not the reporter, who has given us freedom of the press. It is the soldier, not the poet, who has given us freedom of speech. It is the soldier, not the organizer, who has given us the freedom to demonstrate. It is the soldier who salutes the flag, who serves beneath the flag, and whose coffin is draped by the flag, who allows the protester to burn the flag.” – Father Dennis Edward O’Brien, USMC

Help Salesian High School Send Care Packages to the Troops

I’m usually on the other side when it comes to caring about Notre Dame (as in I’m usually on the side that wants to beat the Fighting Irish), but since this is for a good cause, I’ll support it.

Salesian High School in New Rochelle, NY (nickname “the Eagles” – they know who to represent) will be collecting items to send to troops in Iraq and Afghanistan for Thanksgiving. Items include, but are not limited to: granola bars, oatmeal packets, cereal, candy, Ramen Noodles and pop tarts (and can I get a care package as well?). SHS is working in conjunction with Notre Dame’s New York Alumni Chapter in its Operation Gratitude, which is also part of the Notre Dame-Army football game, which is being played at Yankee Stadium on Nov. 20.

Donations can be made to:

Salesian High School
148 East Main Street
New Rochelle, NY 10801

Or you can email me at nomadblog.wordpress@gmail.com for more info. Donations should be received on or around Nov. 10.

Good Friends Doing Good Things

I’m super lucky that I have friends who believe in certain causes. And I’m really lucky that I have friends who are active. If I didn’t, I 1) wouldn’t have anything to blog about, and 2) would not be able to partake in free beer.

On May 1, all of my Ya-Ya-s, both full-fledged and junior status, made their way to Thomas Bull Park in Montgomery NY for the 2010 Arthritis Walk. For those of you who don’t know, May was National Arthritis Month. Those partaking in the Walk do so in honor of a family member or friend who has arthritis (GO AM!), and participants can choose between a three and one-mile course. This year, walkers raised more than $43,000 in support of the fight against arthritis.
