As you can tell from my headline, I am a devout Yankee fan and a New Yorker by birth and at heart, but I also grew up on a military base and know how important it is to take care of our returning vets.
On May 23, Boston’s historic Fenway Park will play host to “The Run to Home Base,” a 9K-run with a route through the city and a finish line at home plate. As many as 3,500 people can participate in the run, while their loved ones can sit in the stands of Fenway and watch them enter the stadium and cross home plate. (Just like the Yankees do when they’re in town. I kid, I kid.)
Funds raised by this event will go to the Red Sox Foundation and the Mass. General Home Base Program. This money will be used to “provide care and community outreach to the many veterans returning from Iraq and Afghanistan with combat stress disorders and/or traumatic brain injuries (TBI) and their families.”
Sign up today to either run, or sponsor a runner. Support our troops as they protect our freedom!
