So I’ve got the DVR going and I’m ready for some serious recappin’. On top of the judges handing out scores for BOTH artistic and technical merit, they are looking for specific moves in every Tango and Rumba. Here. We. Go.
Erin Andrews, Tango: Uh. Oh. Erin’s injured. But her favorite athletes are the ones who don’t talk about their injuries…so we’re gonna watch a 30-second clip about it. Dancing injuries are serious Erin, get that checked out. I feel like Maks is dragging her around a little, but the girl can high kick like no other. Damn! I agree with Carrie Ann; Erin’s performance suffered because of her concentration on the technique. Well that’s what you get for changing up the scoring Carrie Ann!
Score
Technical: 6, 6, 6
Performance: 7, 7, 7
Evan Lysacek, Tango: Starting with a chair, I already like it. I also love that Evan is singing along with the Pussycat Dolls’ Wait a Minute! I thought that was excellent and a little sexy, and I feel like Evan is coming out of his shell. “Hint of cat-like arrogance.” – Bruno (I’m not really sure what that means) Judges love it! Hopefully their scores reflect their critique.
Score
Technical: 9, 8, 9 (yowzah!)
Performance: 9, 8, 9 (I’m gonna go out on a limb and say Evan must take the night. However, I did hear good things about Pam Anderson all day)
Niecy Nash, Rumba: The Rumba, the dance-in-your-underwear dance. Louis says its a great dance to use as therapy. That’s not really what I’ve ever heard about it. I’m kind of creeped out that Niecy’s Rumba is dedicated to her brother. Niecy’s a little stiff tonight, but I think she has the footwork down. I think Len’s gonna be disappointed with the “hip action.” (CALLED IT!)
Score
Technical: 6, 6, 6
Performance: 6, 6, 6
Aiden Turner, Rumba: This better be good, because Edyta is the best Rumba-er in the business. The Rumba on the ship is looking good – I think Aiden might deliver. GREAT song! I always love when they dance to songs I like! Good job Edyta – you got some feeling out of him! I’m impressed. This is much better than last week, when she punched him in the face. Hmmm, the judges hate it – I don’t really understand. And, Bruno just called him “Blue Steel.” Hilarious.
Score
Technical: 5, 5, 5 (really?!?)
Performance: 6, 6, 6
Nicole Scherzinger, Rumba: By now I’m sure you’ve all Googled “Derek Hough, love hand.” Am I right? Oh no, Nicole is laughing. Get it together – this is serious! This is really pretty. I really don’t have anything else to say about it. Very good technique. And, I think Derek should take over as Ren McCormack in the Footloose remake now that Chace Crawford is leaving. This would however make it awkward on the set since his sister, Julianne, is playing the love interest.
Score
Technical: 9, 8, 8 (Bruno, “give me a little more sex.” awk.)
Performance: 8, 8, 9
Jake Pavelka, Tango: There are a lot of “gosh darn its” coming out of Jake’s mouth. Watch the language, Jakey. So far, I feel like all of Jake’s dances have looked the same. However, this might be my favorite. GREAT recovery from an almost disastrous fall! Also, if you ever get a chance, watch the judges during the dance, you can always tell if someone hits a move or messes up.
Score
Technical: 6,7,6
Performance: 7, 6, 6
Kate Gosselin, Tango: I think Tony is so fed up with the dramz. I really wouldn’t be surprised if he just hauled off and hit her. Ok, that would be surprising, but only because he’s such a nice guy. Girlfriend’s got a lot of baggage. And she kind of looks bored. I know she’s an angry person, can’t she just get some of that intensity in there? Oh, this is so bad. Yikes. Also, WTF is Tony wearing? And Erin just did something really weird in the booth. Settle down Erin. Tony: “Kate Gosselin is speechless, this is awesome!” Hilarious!
Score
Technical: 4, 5, 5
Performance: 6, 6, 6
Chad Ochocinco, Rumba: Will Chad win Cheryl over on the dancefloor? It doesn’t seem like it. He’s too goofy. I’m a little nervous for this. Well, it’s better than I expected, but I still don’t think it’s that great. And it was also a little violent? I seriously thought he was going to throw Cheryl at one point. But maybe the best Rumba by a football player yet. Good “hip action.”
Score
Technical: 7, 6, 8
Performance: 8, 7, 8
Pamela Anderson, Rumba: I love that the show keeps Pam Anderson for last, or almost last, every week. Great gimmick. I’ve heard nothing but good things about this dance. Not as clean as it could have been, but definitely good. However, I’m pretty sure Pamy’s eyes were closed the entire time.
Score
Technical: 7, 8, 8
Performance: 8, 7, 9
Spoiler Alert: Aiden Rumbas himself right out of the competition. Kate lives to dance another day.
