I wouldn’t be a true NoMad if I didn’t travel anywhere, so I’m happy to report that I’m leaving for Scotland tonight and will be making my merry way along the Scottish Borders, Northumberland, Edinburgh, Stirling, and St. Andrews for the next two weeks.
My mom’s side of the family is the Turnbulls, and they are Scottish, and we’ll be spending two days with the whole clan in Hawick. Legend has it that we received the name when the chief of our clan turned a charging bull away from the Scottish King Robert Bruce (the same Robert Bruce from Braveheart). The king knighted that man Sir Turn the Bull, and the rest is history. We’re now a famous name in the Scottish Borders, and we even have our own whiskey. There will be lots of tartan, kilts, and drinking, and I promise to come back with lots of pictures.
In the meantime, check out the Turnbull Clan Association website for more info on my heritage. I’ll miss you guys, but I’m sure to end up with lots of stories to share. Until then: be good!
