Scandal in College Basketball

So my uncle likes to send out hundreds of e-mails per day to everyone in our family. They usually tend toward the conservative viewpoint, and that’s putting it mildly. Last week I received a JPEG of Barney Frank in a garter belt. I don’t really want to go into it.

So when I received the following e-mail this afternoon, I should have taken more consideration to the sender. Yes, the following is completely made up. But that doesn’t mean it isn’t funny.

INDIANAPOLIS–Butler’s run in the NCAA Men’s Basketball National Championship Game may be tarnished after reports surfaced today that all 13 players on the roster are being given good educations in an effort to help them find good jobs after they leave the school. “It’s important to remember that right now these are only allegations — allegations that we are looking into,” said NCAA president James Isch.

Taking Important Matters into His Own Hands

Thank you to SuperHoopStud for fixing the 2010 “One Shining Moment” video by eliminating the Jennifer Hudson shots (as well as her version of the song). You must have heard that it was my BIGGEST PET PEEVE of the NCAA Tournament Championship Game.

I have to say that this video is not perfect. I’ve only watched it once and there are some issues, such as the “beat of your heart” clip not sync-ing with the words “beat of your heart.” But I appreciate the effort, and I’m happy someone took the initiative in an attempt to honor the 2009-2010 college basketball season with a worthy video.

And Speaking of Life’s Twists and Turns

So, in my NCAA National Championship post, I may have insinuated (or flat-out said) that “if you had told me 10 years ago that Chris Spatola would be a national champion, I would have asked you what drugs you were on.” Some people (ok, just my mom), took offense to that statement, but I promise that the emotion behind it was nothing but genuine.

10 years ago, Chris was the star of a struggling Army basketball team, in a struggling Patriot League. While I firmly believe that Army basketball players play their hearts out every game, Chris played harder than most, and it was clear that he was full of talent. But the only certain thing about his life at that point was that, after graduation, he’d be headed into the Army, and most likely to war. From that to a championship ring in 10-years’ time is quite an accomplishment.
