I Imagine the Fight Would be Something Like West Side Story

So, Olympic figure skaters Johnny (I love Gaga) Weir and Evan (Dancing with the Stars) Lysacek are in a verbal battle that is heating up as we speak.

According to reports, the pair, who have (allegedly) been at odds since Johnny roomed with Evan’s (alleged) GF – ice-dancer Tanith Belbin – at the Vancouver Olympics, are now fighting over comments Evan made to the Indianapolis Star this week.

Basically, from what I’ve read, Evan insinuated that Johnny wasn’t good enough to join others for Smucker’s Stars on Ice, and that he shouldn’t have whined about not being chosen. To which, Johnny replied “We are at war. My claws are out.” According to People.com, Johnny also called Evan a “slore,” a mix between a slut and a whore. Love. It.

Here’s to You, Mr. Robinson

If you’re seeing the number 42 over and over again, don’t think you’re going crazy. Today is Jackie Robinson day in Major League Baseball, and according to ESPN, “everyone in baseball – players, umpires, managers, coaches, bat boys? ball girls? – will wear the No. 42 today,” honoring the sports hero’s major league debut, 63 years ago.

All teams are set to honor Robinson, while his family will participate in a nationally-televised ceremony before the Yankees-Angels game tonight at Yankee Stadium.

“Jackie Robinson’s incredible legacy continues to impact our society today,” said Baseball Commissioner Bud Selig in an official statement released yesterday. “Baseball’s proudest moment was when Jackie took the field in 1947, so it is important to always remember him and his achievements. It is a privilege to pay tribute to the effect he had on baseball and our country by continuing to honor his Number 42.”

And while honoring Robinson today, let us not forget Moses Fleetwood Walker and William Edward White. Play ball!

Baseball is BACK at Yankee Stadium

The Yankees have their home opener today and baseball season is once again up and running in the Bronx.

A few things will be different: the Yanks will be getting their 27th round of championship rings, and Hideki Matsui will be donning an Angels’ uniform. Now tell me this: will the World Series MVP participate in the ring ceremony? Seriously, I have no idea how that works.

Andy Pettitte will take the mound for the 1:05 p.m. start. Here’s to winning a 28th ring. Go Yanks!
