Guy of the Month: Matt B.

Runnin' It.

Name: Matt
Age: In years, 30ish. In mind, somewhere around 15
Likes: Ala-BAMA football, Bobby Huggins, Carter and Mary Carter
Dislikes: Buzz Aldrin

My mom has a habit of finding complete strangers to come and live with us. Over the course of my lifetime, approximately 432 people have stayed at the Carroll home, and Matt was one of them.

Matt came to us in 2005 when his parents left him in a basket on our doorstep. The note read “We didn’t sign up for this. Love, Barb and Ed.” We really had no choice. He lived with us for an extended summer, and even when his house was finally built, he wouldn’t leave.

Friends, Food and Football

Mo, Me and Kelly Luken.

Finally, I went to my first football game of the season! Unfortunately, it was one of the most disappointing losses I’ve ever seen at Michie Stadium. Despite coming back from a 21-0 start, the Black Knights were unable to hold on to the ball with less than a minute to go, and Hawaii broke the tie with a field goal, winning the game. Ugh. But alas, this is what tailgates are for, as Army fans know best.

Also helping was having two of my favorite BC girls in tow – Mo Cooke and Kelly Luken! Mo came up to West Point on a work field trip (which are awesome by the way, every office should have them), and Kelly came from Long Island with her family for their annual West Point visit. A perfect storm of Eagles! I even got to show Mo and her work buddies South Gate. No trip to an Army football game is complete without a trip to the best bar in town (sorry Fireside, you’re second).

Hopefully Army can pull out a few more wins this season (they are 1-1), because they did look good on Saturday, despite the loss. ‘Til the next game cadets!

Thank God for Friends In Long Distance Relationships

Good idea.

So there’s good ideas and there’s bad ideas.

Good idea: meeting up with childhood friends you haven’t seen since Christmas. Bad idea: several pomegranate margaritas on an empty stomach.

The good idea brought me to drinks with one of my oldest friends, Theresa, and a good three hours of serious gossip. The bad idea left me eating three bowls of ravioli at 9pm, texting/bbm-ing everyone in my phonebook and passing out watching the Rachel Zoe Project (coincidentally, RZP had its best episode of all time last night, I. Die.).

Even with a pounding headache, I can see the silver lining this morning. Good times with great friends are priceless. Gallons of water and carbs can cure anything. And I didn’t wake up covered in Cheet (that’s what we call Cheeto dust – don’t steal it, it’s trademarked).
