And I don’t even care about professional athletes that much!
So I’m innocently reading my Sportscenter Rundown this morning on the T, when I come across some nonsensical headline that reads “Bryant won’t carry Williams’ pads.” “WTF is that supposed to mean?” I wondered to myself and clicked on the link to read the article. Come to find out, football players are once again turning something insignificant into a big deal.
According to ESPN.com, NFL rookie Dez Bryant has only been at Dallas Cowboys’ training camp two days, but he already started trouble by refusing to carry teammate Roy Williams’ shoulder pads after Sunday’s practice. By the NFL’s tradition of hazing, rookies are made to carry the equipment of veteran players. It should also be noted that Bryant and Williams are vying for the same spot.
“I’m not doing it,” said Bryant, who was picked in the first round of the 2010 draft. “I feel like I was drafted to play football, not carry another player’s pads.”
As a person who wiped up sweat for four years of her life, cleaned Powerade out of waterbottles when people had the flu and handled towels with snot-rockets all over them (thanks again, Nate), I have to say that professional athletes today are knuckleheads. I never had a speck of the athletic ability that these men have, and I would have killed to be a part of any team that would take me. Your aura of entitlement is disgusting, sir.
However, I am happy to say that there may be some retaliation in the future for Mr. Bryant. According to reports, Williams alluded to a “step two” in the hazing process, which may or may not include stealing Bryant’s credit cards and racking up large bills. Do it up my friend. He’s probably gonna be making more money than you soon anyway.
