So Apparently the Apocalypse Happened in NYC Last Night

Now that I recall, my mom did mention something about my nana being upset about a big storm coming her way. But we very rarely take that kind of thing seriously, because Nana is really, really into weather. And maps. And looking at maps to see if weather is going to hit her house. It’s a hobby.

But I guess it’s safe to say that Nana called it. And I’m glad I don’t live in Brooklyn. Definitely take a sec to watch these videos on nymag.com. For some reason they oddly remind me of Ghostbusters II. Right?

Scenes from the Green Line

So, this may be the coolest backyard ever. And I may or may not get sued for some kind of privacy infringement. But I say, if you’re going to set up three basketball hoops and a pop-a-shot in your backyard which immediately faces the T, someone’s bound to take a picture and post in on their blog. It’s just common logic.

Clearly, this is at the Beaconsfield stop on the MBTA D Line, and the backyard lies on the inbound side. You can’t see the pop-a-shot, but it’s hooked up to the middle basket, which has it’s back to the T. When I was passing one day this spring, I saw a kid out there shooting, and he’s not bad, but he needs to grow a little. Unless he’s actually 7. In that case, some big time D-I coach needs to get to his house immediately. Of course, this is just my non-professional recruiting assessment.

Invite me over Beaconsfield backyard people! I’m lots of fun and I want to use your pop-a-shot before it gets too cold! And after that, we can take a trip to Highland Falls and play on the black top court in my backyard. Under the lights. Things get serious in the HF.

Friends, Food and Football

Mo, Me and Kelly Luken.

Finally, I went to my first football game of the season! Unfortunately, it was one of the most disappointing losses I’ve ever seen at Michie Stadium. Despite coming back from a 21-0 start, the Black Knights were unable to hold on to the ball with less than a minute to go, and Hawaii broke the tie with a field goal, winning the game. Ugh. But alas, this is what tailgates are for, as Army fans know best.

Also helping was having two of my favorite BC girls in tow – Mo Cooke and Kelly Luken! Mo came up to West Point on a work field trip (which are awesome by the way, every office should have them), and Kelly came from Long Island with her family for their annual West Point visit. A perfect storm of Eagles! I even got to show Mo and her work buddies South Gate. No trip to an Army football game is complete without a trip to the best bar in town (sorry Fireside, you’re second).

Hopefully Army can pull out a few more wins this season (they are 1-1), because they did look good on Saturday, despite the loss. ‘Til the next game cadets!
