Top Chef All Stars is Uh-May-Zing

I’ve always been a really picky eater, but I have to credit the little culinary delights I do try to the awesome contestants on Top Chef. Without them, I would never know that my plate has to have lots of color, that everything is better with a little more acid, and that Tom Colicchio is a sexy beast. And now all my faves are back for another round!

Of the faves, I’m most happy to see: Spike, Fabio, Jamie and Elia. I’m not happy to see Stephen, who’s annoying as hell, but hey, it’s all for entertainment value. We start with the chefs mingling at their new New York City digs. “He’s too loud for my face,” Fabio says of Marcel in his classic “seems to-be-fake-but-is-very-much-real” accent. I love him.

After hugs and jabs, they make their way to the kitchen and all have epileptic flashbacks to the Top Chef seasons of yore. The Quick Fire Challenge: team up with the other chefs from your season and make a dish that represents the city it was filmed in. Chicago wins with a hot dog. Top Chef never ceases to amaze me.

Happy Thanksgiving! Eat Your Face Off!

Classic pigs in a comforter.

I’m not a big fan of turkey and mashed potatoes. Mostly because it’s really just not fattening enough. So a few years ago I just started cooking things I like to eat – pigs in a blanket, mac and cheese – and bringing them to Thanksgiving for myself. Predictably, because I’m such a gourmet (pronounced GORE-MET), everything was a hit. These plates, as well as my chocolate chip-less chocolate chip cookies, are now reoccurring fixtures at family functions.

While there was a period of time in college where all I ate was Easy Mac, those days are gladly behind me, and my mac and cheese is actually made from (semi) scratch! But I’m not a great cook, so the process was a little touch-and-go. This was an actual quote from my mom tonight: “You need to use a whisk. You do know what a whisk is, right?” Yes, mom. I have my master’s degree and have lived on my own for about 8 years now. I know what a whisk is. I also know how to separate my whites and colors when doing my wash, but you wouldn’t think it after the week of laundry I’ve been doing at my parents’ house.

Weight Loss Week Eight: Success is Counted Sweetest

This Week’s Loss -0.9
Total Weight Loss: -8.9

So it hasn’t all been Chipotle burritos and Zumba classes (well, yes, yes it has) but we’ve finally reached wedding week and I’m .9 lbs under my goal weight. Yay!

This week (and the prior week) can mostly be attributed to seeing a mouse in my apartment and refusing to eat while inside said apartment or buy groceries. That mouse might have been a godsend.

So, the shoes are bought, the dress is shortened, and all is right with the world. My next goal is another 5 lbs for my cousin Lindsey’s wedding in December, but there definitely needs to be a break in between this journey and the next. This shiz is hard! Til next time peeps!!

P.S. If you can name the inspiration for the title of this post, I will love you forever. And no Google-ing!
