The Hills: Best Finale Ever?

Now I can’t speak to the entire episode, because I DVRed it and only watched the end, but how about that final scene? Great wasn’t it?

After all these years, through Laguna Beach and Newport Harbor (which was god-awful) to The Hills and The City, we’ve speculated about the “reality” of these reality series. We’ve chided MTV for vapid story lines and unrealistic characters. But we still watched, and MTV knew it had us, so they continued to produce these mind-numbing, maybe 15-minute shows, all the while the joke obviously being on us.

Bravo to MTV for pointing the finger back at the audience, and for having a sense of humor. While the Sopranos left us angry, while Lost left us confused, and while many other shows end with no resolution whatsoever, you went out on a perfect note.

Even when seemingly on the losing end, MTV always seems to pull it together to make itself iconic.

Quote of the Day

In all fairness, I watch The Hills while I eat my breakfast in the morning, and before my 64 ounces of practically white, sugar-laden coffee is finished, nothing I encounter stands much of a chance. But the show has really taken a turn for the worst these past couple of weeks, and it’s gotten to the point where the only reason I’m sad to see it go is because without The Hills, there can be no Hills Recap, one of my MOST favorite things EVER.

From this week’s installment:

“‘How is his actions?’ counters Justin, who is suffering from some sort of singular versus plural blind spot. Audrina shrugs. ‘There are certain people you see that are meant, and there are certain people that you see, you can just tell. Not saying whatever, take that for what it is. You can tell, you can tell when two people are really happy,’ he finishes, looking at Audrina meaningfully. She seems to understand what he means, which is impressive, because even after numerous rereadings, we are left baffled.” – The Hills Recap: No More Seats, via nymag.com.

Nicole Scherzinger is Our New DWTS Champion!

Nicole and Derek win! Adam Larkey/ABC

Now, this might not come as a shock to a lot of you, considering Nicole blew away the competition for most of the season, but after Monday’s showing, the judges had me thinking it could be anybody’s game. (I’m also pretty confident in my suspicions that the judges give arbitrary scores based on what producers want, but whatever it’s good TV!)

Tuesday night was a night of showmanship and fun, and what a great way to end what has been one of my favorite seasons! All of the contestants were back for one more dance (Kate Gosselin is still terrible), and past winners and contestants crowded the audience to get a taste of the greatness that was Season 10.
