Scenes from the Green Line…

So, this was my morning commute: walk the 5-7 minutes from my apartment to Cleveland Circle. Discover lots of MBTA workers in orange jackets standing out in the rain with Boston police officers. Realize right then that it’s going to take me approximately five hours and 17 minutes to get to work. Pile onto MBTA bus because the T isn’t running. Creep down Beacon Street in morning traffic, sweating because the bus’ heat is on full blast. Get to the Brandon Hall T stop where I see that a humongous tree has fallen across the T tracks and landed on a car that will never be driven again. Realize that this must be the reason we’re taking the bus. Curse the MBTA for not being completely underground. Get off said bus at Coolidge Corner. Have short conversation with MBTA worker about how big this tree is. He tells me no one was killed. Have mild guilt attack after realizing that people’s safety never crossed my mind while I was too busy bitching about the rain and Boston transportation in general. Get onto packed T at Coolidge Corner and proceed down Beacon Street. Listen to people bitch and moan about the T being too crowded. Want to yell out “no one was killed!” just to make them feel bad. Get to work. Blog. The End.

The Worst Terrorist Ever?

Now, I want to preface this post by saying Saturday’s Times Square Bomb Scare could have had disastrous effects. Not only could there have been deaths involved, but catastrophic consequences for the rest of the world. With that said, a lot of this story is just not sitting right with me, and I can’t help but thinking that Faisal Shahzad might be the worst terrorist ever.

First, and most importantly, Shahzad’s plan fizzled out along with the bomb he tried to detonate. I don’t know a lot about bombs, so I can’t really say that they are 100 percent foolproof, but to add insult to injury, Shahzad parked his Nissan Pathfinder right in front of a NY street vendor. Are you serious? Those guys have been at their posts for years and – even on the busiest block on the planet – know when something is out of place. Shahzad loses points for the faulty bomb, but even more for not doing his location scout.

Love that Dirty Water…

...Boston you're my home.

So, there were a bunch of reasons I wasn’t looking forward to the trip back to Boston from NY last night. However, the kicker had to be the fact that a state of emergency was declared Saturday after a large pipe-burst cut off drinking water for all of Boston and the surrounding towns. That means no tap water for the next few days, which doesn’t bode well for the dirty dishes in my sink.
