Dad’s Second Annual 60th Birthday Extravaganza: A Camera Phone Diary

A lot went on at Denny Carroll’s Second Annual 60th Birthday Party last week in North Carolina, and a lot of it I can’t discuss. I’d say “what happens in North Carolina stays in North Carolina,” but it’s more like “I can’t remember what happened in North Carolina.” So I guess I have to let the pictures speak for themselves.

P.S. – The one thing I do remember is my kick-ass birdie putt on the 18th hole of the Denny Carroll Second Annual 60th Birthday Golf Outing. Apparently I won a trip to the Bahamas. Second place was a sleeve of used golf balls, so I’m not planning my trip just yet.

Phil Talks Finance, Auditions for Zoolander 2

Phil Mattingly graced C-SPAN with his presence this morning, talking finance and money and yada, yada, yada (I’m sure it was highly intelligent and enlightening, I just don’t follow). More importantly, his attempt at full-on Blue Steel-status is inspiring.

Phil loves that I now have a blog and can publicly bust his chops for being a full-fledged Washington celebrity. Loves. It. He just might be vowing to never speak to me again at this very moment.

Good job today, sir. When Phil talks, America listens.

Now the Bromance can Continue

Ok, so this has pretty much been a done deal for months now, but since Northeastern chose to officially announce its basketball coaching staff today, I’m choosing to officially write about it.

Not too many changes to the 2010-2011 coaching roster, except one big one – Pat Duquette, once associate head coach under Al Skinner at Boston College (and interim head coach after Skinner was fired earlier this year), has fatefully rejoined buddy Bill Coen (also of the BC coaching tree, obviously) at NU. Sadly, Duquette is replacing Coach Tom Murphy, one of the greatest guys living on the planet, but Murphy will still be affiliated with the team, in a mentoring/donor-related capacity.

I’m so excited about this I can’t even tell you. I was already planning to become a Husky groupie this year – as they may need me because of a big loss of senior players – but this just solidifies it. And let’s not forget, Steve Scalzi still holds his position of director of basketball operations.

It’s like BC ’06 all over again. Seriously guys – professional head manager, it’s a position that needs to happen…that I need to fill.

Go Northeastern! Lovin’ it.
