NCAA Basketball Weekend Recap

WHAT a weekend it was! While I was in Providence, Northern Iowa was putting the hurt on Kansas. After that game, the two people in the entire world who may have still had perfect brackets were dunzo. I don’t think anyone really made it out of the first weekend alive, and my new Final Four prediction is Cornell, St. Mary’s, Northern Iowa and Syracuse (we’ll leave a number one seed in there just to keep it interesting).

I had a great time with my friends Allie and Nick at the Providence games, and while the Ohio-Tennessee match-up left a lot to be desired (and Bruce Pearl didn’t wear his orange blazer), I’m so glad I got the opportunity to go. I know no other person in the world other than myself that would rather spend a 75 degree, sunny day inside a dark and cold gym (besides my dad, who taught me everything I know).

Yay for college basketball! Just watch the video, you’ll see how much fun we had (its grainy and there’s a weird watermark because I had to convert files, but I promise, the videos will get better as I work my way to becoming the greatest blogger ever, and total world domination):

UPDATE: This video should be better:

I AM March Madness Today

Yay! for college basketball. Robert Galbraith-Reuters

I’m so excited….and I just can’t hide it!

If you haven’t spoken to me in the past two weeks, then you probably don’t know that I scored some tickets to the NCAA second round games in Providence. I haven’t slept since they were purchased. I’m not kidding. I promise a complete recap, pics and maybe even some video for your viewing pleasure. Until then, keep humming “One Shining Moment” to yourself; Teddy Pendergrass, Luther Vandross, Jennifer Hudson…whatever version.

You can also check out this video, “Making of NCAA Tournament Court.” In real time, this process is not that interesting, but I still wonder how it all gets done.

If This Happens, Long Island Will Definitely Become Its Own State

Could Steve Levy's run for governor clear the way for Ed Romaine to make Long Island the 51st state??

New York magazine, and I’m sure a mess of other news outlets, announced today that Suffolk County Executive Steve Levy will be changing his party status to Republican in order to more easily win a primary and campaign to become governor of New York. I have a problem with this on several levels:

1. Steve Levy’s mustache is out of control and I can’t have someone running my home state that can’t even keep his facial hair to himself.

2. I think the governor job is a big leap from county executive, especially in NY. New York is a home rule state, and while the government in Suffolk County has a bigger role than maybe other New York counties, I think the true power really lies with the town and local governments. Can we please have someone who is qualified and not sleeping with hookers? I don’t really think that’s a lot to ask. Note: I’m referring to our last two governors. Not Steve Levy.

3. If Levy leaves his county exec post, I think Ed Romaine (county legislator from Center Moriches) will take over. That man has so much power, and so much love for Long Island, that it will definitely become its own state. And will probably legally change its name to STRONG Island….never-mind, I just re-watched this video:

Strong Island to Become Its Own State

Let’s make this happen.
