Elin Nordegren Reaches “You Go Girl” Status

The former Mrs. Tiger Woods is showing American women what it means to stand up for themselves.

After years of watching Vanessa Bryant, Silda Spitzer, Dina McGreevy (no, your husband’s gay, he does not want to be married to you) and our own Secretary of State Hillary Clinton stand by their men while they cheated, lied and messed with the sanctity of marriage, I’m so freakin’ happy that there’s still women out there who will not stay in a broken relationship, no matter how much money, fame, political prestige or huge-ass diamond rings are in it for them.

Thank you Elin for taking your kids and getting the hell out of town. While it’s somewhat easier for you to walk away (at least financially) than it may be for some women, you’re setting an example that needs to be followed.

P.S. I think you should admit that you hit Tiger with a golf club (even if you didn’t do it). It can only put you on a higher pedestal at this point.

Louie! I’m Outside with the Truck. Let’s Go!

I know the mafia is dangerous. I know organized crime runs underground in almost all of our cities, and is responsible for crime of all sorts. But the mafia’s latest scandal is probably the greatest scam I have ever heard.

According to The Guardian, mafia clans have been using the ESPN Bottom Line-like ticker of a popular Italian soccer show to relay messages to “godfathers” locked up in the big house. “Imprisoned crime bosses were kept up to date on mob business through mobile phone texts sent to the show, Quelli Che il Calcio, which unwittingly scrolled them across the bottom of the screen, among innocent messages from supporters of Italian football teams,” the newspaper reports.

Officials were notified of the breach through a letter to an inmate that was intercepted. The letter allegedly told one mafioso to watch the show for secret messages. One of the texts reportedly read “Everything is OK – Paolo,” which to me is more of a calming reassurance than it is the directions to Jimmy Hoffa’s body.

Now the Bromance can Continue

Ok, so this has pretty much been a done deal for months now, but since Northeastern chose to officially announce its basketball coaching staff today, I’m choosing to officially write about it.

Not too many changes to the 2010-2011 coaching roster, except one big one – Pat Duquette, once associate head coach under Al Skinner at Boston College (and interim head coach after Skinner was fired earlier this year), has fatefully rejoined buddy Bill Coen (also of the BC coaching tree, obviously) at NU. Sadly, Duquette is replacing Coach Tom Murphy, one of the greatest guys living on the planet, but Murphy will still be affiliated with the team, in a mentoring/donor-related capacity.

I’m so excited about this I can’t even tell you. I was already planning to become a Husky groupie this year – as they may need me because of a big loss of senior players – but this just solidifies it. And let’s not forget, Steve Scalzi still holds his position of director of basketball operations.

It’s like BC ’06 all over again. Seriously guys – professional head manager, it’s a position that needs to happen…that I need to fill.

Go Northeastern! Lovin’ it.
