And This is Why Jay-Z is So Cool

So according to New York magazine Jay-Z is getting the word out about his upcoming memoir (Decoded) by reprinting pages of the book onto inanimate objects, as well as people, in various locations throughout New York City. This is probably the coolest thing I’ve ever heard.

David Droga, of Droga5, the advertising company behind this stellar marketing campaign, told the New York Times today that locations will be chosen according to the subject matter on the reprinted page, i.e. if Jay-Z mentions the Marcy Projects or something about Madison Square Garden (I mean, this is all he talks about…and B, he talks about her too), reprinted pages will most likely be found there in the next few days. “If in certain pages Jay-Z is talking about something related to Times Square, then those pages might be on billboards in Times Square,” Droga said.

Awful Library Books – My New Favorite Website

Always read the subhead.

There’s a new highly-specific blog in town and it’s called Awful Library Books, where two public librarians from Michigan go through the stacks to find the worst titles/covers/general content they can in an effort to showcase some cool books that may have been overlooked, or simply force public libraries to be more current.

My favorite book this week: Jewish Pirates of the Caribbean (subhead: How a Generation of Swashbuckling Jews Carved Out an Empire in the New World in their Quest for Treasure, Religious Freedom and Revenge). OhmygodIloveitsomuch.

My Future Wedding: The Scene of the Crime

I’m not a girly-girl. I didn’t lay in bed at night dreaming about my wedding day growing up. I don’t have a notebook filled with fabric samples and pictures of place settings. I actually don’t even really like the idea of weddings, unless I found someone who I wanted to be with forever and ever – a marriage, not a wedding.

So imagine my surprise when I stumbled upon the courtyard at the Boston Public Library and said to myself, “this is where I’m gonna get married.” Who would have thought? I was just there to pick up my copy of Angel Face: The True Story of Student Killer Amanda Knox by Barbie Latza Nadeau (I’ve been on the waiting list for-EVER).

The BPL courtyard is so Gatsby-esque I don’t know what to do with myself. And all I can see is evening, white lights, and friends and family lining the upper balconies. Plus, the larger more modern buildings loom over the courtyard like their watching over the old-school architecture. It’s humbling and beautiful and I LOVE it. Now if I could only envision a husband…maybe I’ll just marry myself and register at Manolo like Carrie Bradshaw. Done and done.
