So, What if the Groundhog Can’t Even Get Out of His Hole Tomorrow?

Tomorrow, as all of you mighty well know, is Groundhog’s Day, and I’m a sucker for any holiday that has absolutely nothing to do with anything. Every February 2, you can find me checking every online newspaper from here to Timbuktu to see if that little sucker saw his shadow or not. And of course, I live and die by what said groundhog does.

However, it’s been snowing in the Northeast for approximately 157 years, and this morning I woke up quite concerned that Punxsutawney Phil isn’t even going to be able to leave his little hovel, let alone see/not see his freakin’ shadow. “Don’t worry,” my mom assured me when I inevitably called her about it this morning. “They’ll dig him out.” Now, as much as my mom tried, this was not reassuring, because I’ve seen Caddyshack, and I know how unpredictable gophers and groundhogs can be. On Christmas Eve we went to Mass, and I have to say, I’m disappointed the Christmas pageant is no more. Little kids reenacting the nativity scene is probably the greatest/funniest thing ever. Usually someone stumbles, or Joseph’s robe is on backwards, or one of the angels is singing out of tune. Hilarious. Without it, the Christmas mass is kind of bland, but that’s probably really bad to say about Church, isn’t it?

Kids Say the Darndest Things: Letters to Santa

Kids these days are much smarter than they used to be. When I was little, my letters to Santa consisted of me listing everything I wanted that year (from one of those dolls whose hair changes color under water to a Gameboy) and then a list of all the reasons I was a good kid. Because I really, really deserved all the things I was asking for.

But the author of this letter above is doing it right. First off, his little note is very conversational. Asking how the reindeer are? Brilliant. Way to get right to Santa’s softspot kid. I like your approach.
